People say a picture is worth a thousand words, but how much is a paved driveway worth? Ours came partially grass-covered with two dirt tracks near the street and a picnic table in front of the garage. We've been throwing around ideas for what to do with our "driveway" since we moved in.
It has turned into a mud pit. Muddy shoes equals muddy pants, muddy house and mad muddy wife. Second, it makes it difficult to shovel snow. We've both had the wind knocked out of us when the shovel gets stuck on a froze dirt groove. And half the "driveway" has probably been relocated to the flower beds by now.
One thing's for certain- we are highly motivated to see a change this spring/summer! Any suggestions?
Well, it just depends on how much you want to spend. The least expensive option is probably a truckload, say 10 yards, of road gravel. There's a specific mix recommended for driveways. It has enough clay mixed into it that it packs well, but it is still mostly gravel. It drains decently and doesn't turn too muddy. Asphalt is in the middle of the cost spectrum, and concrete is expensive, especially for a driveway the size of yours. If you get prices, at least you'll know the true cost of dealing with the mud. I'm interested to hear others' suggestions- this is definitely not something fun to spend money on, but the mud IS a pain! Carolyn
